Doug was born April 9, 1944, in Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of Eldo and Henrietta (Petersen) Hollander.

He was baptized on August 13, 1944 by the Rev. A.F. Rinne and confirmed in Christ on March 22, 1959 by the Rev. Walter Baumgartner at United Church of Christ.

He was raised in the Schleswig, Iowa area and graduated from Schleswig High School in 1963.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War period from 1965 to 1967. He continued to live in Schleswig for a few years, moving to Sioux City in the early 1970's.

He was united in marriage to Arlene M. Zeisler on June 9, 1973, in Jackson, Nebraska. He drove a truck for the United Parcel Service for 34 years, retiring in 2003.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Sioux City Woodworkers Club and Teamsters Union Local 554, where he served as a union steward for several years.

Services were held Saturday, August 24, 2006 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morningside with the Rev. Daniel Guenther officiating. Burial was at the Morningside Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Rites.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; a daughter, Jennifer Hollander of Sioux City; his mother, Henrietta Hollander of Schleswig, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Frances and Delbert Clausen of Schleswig; and a brother, Craig and Kris Hollander of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father.

The Christy-Smith Chapel in Morningside was in charge of the arrangements.
