Dorothy Hoemann was born July 15, 1929, the daughter of Herman and Winifred Hoemann. She died Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of seventy-seven.

Dorothy was born at Sutherland, Iowa in O'Brien County. She lived with her parents on a farm and attended rural school. During her third grade year she developed epilepsy seizures. In March 1938 the family moved to a farm which they had bought south of Denison. She continued living with her parents on the farm. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed in December 1951 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, where she enjoyed attending services. Dorothy enjoyed working doing various farm tasks. Education became more difficult due to the seizures. When her parents retired, she moved with them to Charter Oak.

When her mother entered Eventide, Dorothy went to WESCO where she worked for eighteen years. The staff are truly to be commended in working with Dorothy in teaching her various domestic skills and to live semi-independently in an apartment.

She was excellent in keeping her home immaculate. She enjoyed being with her friends and attending the Senior Citizen Center during the week and with friends at Hy-Vee on Saturday mornings. Dorothy enjoyed bingo, making a scrapbook of clippings about people and numerous photo albums.

Due to failing health in the summer of 2004, she became a resident at Eventide.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, George and one sister, Margaret. Those remaining to cherish her memory include brothers, Kenneth, Donald and wife Fola, sister, Bonnie and husband Harold Segebart, sister-in-law, Joan Hoemann, special friend Duane Smith, all of Denison, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison.

Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Nearer, My God, To Thee", "I Am Jesus Little Lamb" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Those serving as honorary pallbearers were: Aldene Keairnes, Cecil Walker, Darlene Saunders, Unabelle Frehse, Junablle Maak and Duane Smith. Pallbearers were: Steven Segebart, Kevin Segebart, Randy Segebart, Earl Hoemann, John Hoemann and Mark Kirby.

The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Dorcas Society. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
