Howard S. Foster

Howard S. Foster, age 86, of Clinton, died Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at his home. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Fulton, IL. Visitation will be held from 3-7 P.M. Thursday at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton where a vigil service will be held at 7: 00 P.M. Burial will be at St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery in Clinton with military rites by the AMVETS. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jon Murphy, Steve Foster, Bill Davis, Jeff Hinerichsen, Andy Murphy and Joe Murphy.

Howard was born on Jan. 5, 1920 in Clinton, IA, the son of Francis and Mayme (Simmons) Foster. He served with the US Army during WWII as a Technician, 5th Grade with the 62nd Signal Battalion in Africa and Italy. He went to Japan shortly after the surrender of the Japanese. He married Helen McDonnell on July 25, 1942 in Bryant, IA. He owned and operated Foster‚s TV Service for 30 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Fulton. He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, traveling, and the holidays. Howard was an avid baseball and Cub fan. In his younger days he played minor league ball reaching the Triple A level. His wife and family were of the up most importance to him as were his faith and his church.

Howard is survived by his wife, Helen of Clinton; a son, Greg (Barb) Foster of Camanche, IA; three daughters, Mrs. Barbara (Robert) Davis of Peoria, IL, Mrs. Rita (Michael) Weets of Clinton, and Mrs. Mary Jo (John) Murphy of Clinton; 6 grandchildren; Steve Foster, Sheryl (Mrs. Jon) Murphy, Jeff Hinerichsen, Bill Davis, Andy Murphy and Joe Murphy; 6 great grandchildren; Emily Lynn Murphy, Luke Davis, Alex Hinerichsen, Grant Hinerichsen, Reid Hinerichsen and Kolton Murphy; a sister, Clara Bartels of Clinton and two sisters-in-law, Lualis Foster and Doris Foster both of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
