Donald James Ross

Donald James Ross, 74, of 3610 Skylark Lane SE, died at home of cancer, Tuesday, February 21, 2006. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. David O’Connor. A private family burial in Sabula will be held on Saturday. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Barbara; a sister Jean (Joseph) Determan of Clinton; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Don was born April 24, 1931 in Maquoketa to Charles and Clara Portz Ross.

He served in the National Guard from 1953 - 1955. Don married Barbara Dunham in Sabula on August 19, 1967. He worked for Clinton engines in Maquoketa, and Nissan Trampoline and Johnson Gas Appliance in Cedar Rapids where he retired in 1994 as a plant engineer. He and Barbara traveled the world enjoying trips to 6 continents and over 40 countries. He loved Hawkeye football, working in his yard, and spending time with his nieces and nephews, whom he considered family.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, St. Luke’s Hospice, and All Saints Catholic Church.

Barbara would like to thank both the Oncology staff and Hospice at St. Luke’s Hospital for their patience, support and loving care given to Don during his illness.
