Edward B. Manning Sr.

Edward B. Manning Sr., 85, of Chadwick, died Jan. 30 at Freeport (Ill.) Health Network Memorial Hospital.

The body will be cremated. There will be a memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ss. John and Catherine Catholic Church, Mount Carroll, Ill. The Law-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born March 3, 1920, in Thomson, Ill., to Ben and Catherine Halfman Manning. He married Bettie Nelson on Nov. 13, 1943, in Monterey, Calif.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He worked with Smith Oil Corp. hauling fuel and LP gas.

He was a member of Ss. John and Catherine Catholic Church, Mount Carroll, and the Chadwick American Legion and Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Janet (Neal) Queckboerner of Chadwick; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; five sisters, Izadora Senneff of Thomson, Mary Kordal of Boynton Beach, Fla., LaVonne Blakeslee of Livingston, Mont., Leota Cavanaugh of Polo, Ill., and Donna Conklin of Beloit, Wis.; two brothers, Lyle (Shirley) Manning of Polo and LaVern (Norma) Manning of Upham, N.D.; and one sister in-law, Blanche Manning of Savanna, Ill.

Memorials may be made to the Chadwick Volunteer Fire Department in his name.

He was preceded in death by one son, one sister, two brothers and two grandchildren.
