Ruth Esther Cerveny

SAVANNA, Ill. — Ruth Esther Cerveny, 90, of Savanna, died Saturday at Rockford (Ill.) Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Savanna, with the Rev. Thomas Moe officiating with a luncheon to follow. Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Law Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. There will be an additional visitation Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Brosh Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, with burial to follow in the Czech National Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 28, 1915, to Joseph and Emma Mikulecky in Cedar Rapids. She married Louis Cerveny on Nov. 22, 1941.

She graduated from Washington High School, Cedar Rapids, in 1933. She attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon and State Teachers’ College, Cedar Falls.

She was a teacher for 12 years in rural schools in the Mount Vernon and Cedar Rapids area. She later served as a substitute teacher in Savanna and Lanark, Ill. Before retiring, she worked with the Duncan Department Store, Savanna.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Savanna. She hosted an antique club and church circle.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Marilou (Les) Haworth of Elgin, Ill., and Mrs. Audrey (Jonathan) Nesbitt of Sterling, Ill; one brother, Lester Mikulecky of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
