Lyle D. Johnston

DEWITT — Lyle D. Johnston, 80, of DeWitt, died Saturday at his home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at DeWitt United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Kledis will be officiating. Burial will be in Clinton Memorial Park Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the DeWitt American Legion. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt.

Members of the legion will be pallbearers.

He was born Feb. 3, 1925, in Woodland to Golden and Effie Mae Wilson Johnston. He married Gladys Anderson on June 30, 1950, in Dubuque.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He was a carpenter for 35 years working with Allied Construction. He retired in 1987.

He was a member of DeWitt United Methodist Church, Eugene McManus American Legion Post 238 and was as 50-year member of Carpenters Union Local 4.

Survivors include his wife; sons, James (Darlene) Johnston of DeWitt, David (Madonna) Johnston of DeWitt and Mark (Debbie) Johnston, Watertown, Wis.; daughters, Mrs. Linda (Dick) Dierks of Winnebago, Ill., Mrs. Diane (Ray) Chlebicki of Lakewood, Ill., and Janet Johnston of DeWitt; nine grandchildren; one sister, Irene Lanning of Clinton; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald (Delores) Johnston of Clinton and Max (Debbie) Johnston of Davenport.
