Norman D. Bruins

MORRISON, Ill. — Norman D. Bruins, 75, of Morrison, died Saturday at his home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morrison Christian Reformed Church preceded by a 10:45 a.m. family prayer service. Military funeral honors will be conducted by the Morrison American Legion and VFW. The Rev. Bruce Vaandrager, former pastor of Morrison Christian Reformed Church, will be officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The body will be donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine for scientific purposes.

Pallbearers will be Ian Bruins, Seth Bruins, Philip Bruins, Paul Bruins, Gabe Fairchild and Joe Jacobs.

He was born Dec. 9, 1930, in Morrison to John J. and Zada R. Humphrey Bruins. He married Helen E. Wiebenga on April 9, 1954, in Fulton, Ill.

He attended Morrison grade schools and graduated from Morrison High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in the Korean War.

He was first employed as a mechanic and later service manager with the former Don Norberry Chevrolet Dealership, Morrison. He was later employed as a service manager with McEleney Motors, Clinton, for 22 years before retiring in 1993.

He was a member of Morrison Christian Reformed Church and served as a deacon and elder. He also served as a bookkeeper for the Morrison Christian Reformed Church from 1992 to 2004. He served as a supervisor for both Union Grove and Mount Pleasant townships.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Rebecca (Trent) Jacobs of Cedar Rapids; two sons, John (Bonnie) Bruins of Coleta, Ill., and Brad (Josanne) Bruins of Peru, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Mrs. Eleanor Douglas of Morrison.

Memorials may be made to Morrison Christian Reformed Church or Mercy Hospice.
