James Curtin

MAQUOKETA — James E. Curtin, 83, of Maquoketa and formerly of Wyoming, Iowa, died Sunday at his home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, with the Rev. James Chappell and Deacon Bob Head officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Eric and Matt Fisher, Brian and Justin Curtin and Christopher and James Fleming.

He was born Feb. 6, 1922, in Waukon to Peter and Callie Rea Curtin. He married Wilma M. Goeke on Sept. 12, 1945, in Waukon. She died in 2003.

He graduated from Waukon High School.

He was a livestock buyer with Wilson Foods and farmed for many years in Wyoming.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, and a volunteer fireman with the Wyoming Fire Department for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Connie (Fred) Fisher of Anamosa and Glenda Fleming of Amboy, Ill.; one son, Greg (Madeline) Curtin of Prophetstown, Ill.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Walter (Donna) Curtin of Cedar Rapids.
