Fred Schlotfeldt

DEWITT — Fred Schlotfeldt, 78, of DeWitt, died Monday at Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Visitation will be at the Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. The funeral liturgy is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The Rev. H. Robert Harness will be officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Eugene McManus American Legion Post 238, DeWitt, will conduct military rites.

Pallbearers will be Joe Feldpausch, Bruce Telleen, Francis McMahon, Larry Delay, Kenneth Schlotfeldt, Don Hesse, Ed Grace, Dale McMahon, David McMahon, Gary McMahon, Ronald McMahon and David Delaney.

He was born April 11, 1927, in DeWitt to Fred and Catherine Waldorf Schlotfeldt. He married Madonna McMahon on May 8, 1964, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt.

He graduated from DeWitt High School.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the end of World War II.

He worked as a mechanic with Peters Motor Co., DeWitt, for 25 years and farmed for 41 years.

He was a member of the Teal Hunting Club, which he helped establish in the early 1960s.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janice and William Cook of DeWitt and Leora and Jay Claeys of Welton; two grandchildren; and one sister, Berniece Schlotfeldt.
