D.C. “Bear” Richardson

FULTON, Ill. — D.C. “Bear” Richardson, 63, of Fulton, died Tuesday at Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, Ill.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with the Rev. Father Arley T. Downie. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Redline, D.H., Brownie, K.C., Hammer, P.T., Mike Jones, Tim Bodine, Ray Stage, Vigilante Bob, all HOG brothers, all ABATE brothers and sisters and his grandchildren.

He was born Aug. 10, 1942, in Detroit to Hugh and Della Otatti Richardson.

He was educated in the Detroit schools.

He was a decorated U.S. Army Vietnam veteran serving from 1961 to 1963.

After his military service, he lived in Sterling, Ill., then Clinton in the 1980s. He moved to Fulton 15 years ago.

He owned and operated Kodiak Black Hills Gold Shop and Kodiak Roofing, both of Clinton. He also owned and operated the Artistic Rebellion Tattoo Parlor, Clinton.

He was a lifetime member of American Bikers Aimed Toward Education (ABATE) of Iowa and a member of ABATE of Wisconsin and Illinois. He established the District 21 ABATE Chapter in Iowa and part of Illinois and served as the coordinator. He was instrumental in organizing the Toys for Tots program throughout Clinton and Jackson counties and a portion of Whiteside County in Illinois. He was active in starting Fulton’s annual bike blessing 12 years ago. He was a member of the Harley-Davidson Owners Group and Motorcycle Riders Foundation and served as a motorcycle driving instructor. He was a member of the American Legion of Illinois, National Rifle Association and AARP. He also was a member of the Parachute Club of America, Blackhawk Skydivers of Sterling and Rock Falls, Ill.

Survivors include Julie Meiners, with whom he made his home; three daughters, Tina Richardson of Maquoketa, Mrs. Toni (Phillip) Howes of Clinton and Tanya Richardson of New Haven, Mich.; two sons, Tom (Mandy) Richardson of Sandwich, Ill., and Tim (Miranda) Richardson of Clinton; two stepsons, Matthew Meiners and Jacob Meiners, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, one sister and one brother.
