MILLEDGEVILLE , Ill. — Franklin LeRoy Smith, age 84, of Milledgeville, died Thursday, December 29, 2005 at Freeport Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 2, 2006 at 10:00 AM at the McDonald-Allen-Grennan Funeral Home in Milledgeville with Reverend Kathy Burkheimer officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, January 1, 2006 from 2-4 PM at the funeral home with Masonic services at 3:45 PM. Burial will conclude the services at Bethel Cemetery in Milledgeville.

A memorial has been established to the Milledgeville Fire Department.

Mr. Smith was born March 19, 1921 in Lanark, Illinois the son of Jacob and Ethel Mae (Rogers) Smith. He married LaVon Deets on June 21, 1942 in Milledgeville. He farmed until 1948, was a truck driver for Munz Trucking, and later owned and operated F.L. Smith Trucking for 57 years. He retired July 1, 2005. He was formerly a fireman for the Millegdeville Fire Department, was a member of the Milledgeville Masons, the Freeport Masons Scottish Rights, and was a member of the Carroll County Fair Board.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith (Richard) Petersen of Clinton, IA and Cheryl (Ronald) Lartz of Milledgeville; two brothers, Fay (Alvera) Smith of Lanark and Duane (Patricia) Smith of Lanark; six grandchildren: Antoinette, Todd, Trent, Trisha, Michelle, and Amanda; and six great grandchildren: Kyle, Breanna, Michael, Nicholas, Allison, and Marissa.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two sons, David Smith in infancy and Gary Smith; six sisters: Ellen, Donna, Ruth, Betty, Alice, and Barbara; one brother, Frances; and one grandaughter, Tanya.
