Alan Ray Tschudi

Harrisonburg, Va. — Alan Ray Tschudi, 65, of Harrisonburg, died Friday at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Va.

The body will be cremated. Kyger Funeral Homes and Crematory Inc. of Harrisonburg is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be private. Memorial services will take place at a later date.

He was born May 23, 1940, in Waterloo to Raymond Edmond and Minnie Loveless Tschudi. He married Judith J. Kaczinski on Jan. 14, 1957.

He received a bachelor’s degree from St. Ambrose College and a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He served on the faculty at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Ill., until 1974 when he accepted a position at James Madison University where he taught in the art department and was the founder of the graphic design program. He retired in 2000.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Tara Tschudi and Tai Tschudi, both of Harrisonburg; and two brothers, Dennis Tschudi of Palmdale, Calif., and Neil Tschudi of Anchorage, Alaska.

Memorial donations may be made to the Neuro-oncology Research Fund, University of Virginia Hospital, Box 800432, Charlottesville, VA 22908-0432.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
