Vernon N. Waldorf

PALM DESERT, Calif. — Vernon N. Waldorf, a resident of Palm Desert, California, died Thursday, December 8, 2005.

Vernon was born January 8, 1915 in Clinton, Iowa, to George and Alvina (Ehlers) Waldorf. He was united in marriage to Gladys Margaret Risem on July 16, 1940 in Bismark, North Dakota. Jack was chief executive and owner of Mardale, Inc., a food manufacturing business in the Chicago, Illinois area, a company he founded. He was a pioneer in portion control packaging for the food service industry and will be remembered locally as a terrific golfer and kind friend to all who knew him.

Jack was a Mason, member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at Iowa State University, Marrakesh Country Club, Lake Arrowhead Country Club, Sons of Norway, Food Products Club of Chicago, National Association of Manufacturers, and Palm Desert Presbyterian Church. He supplied the troops during WWII as a government contractor processing and packaging food for shipment overseas.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Gladys of Palm Desert, CA and his daughter, Margaret Winslow of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by a son, Dale Jeffrey Waldorf in 1999.

A prayer service was held December 13, 2005, at Desert Presbyterian Church in Palm Desert, CA. Interment at Desert Memorial Park, Cathedral City, CA with Fitzhenry Funeral Home, Palm Desert Chapel in charge of arrangements.
