Max J. Dull

Max J. Dull, 79, DeWitt, Iowa, died Sunday afternoon, December 11, 2005 at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport, Iowa.

Max John Dull was born April 21, 1926 in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Emory and Rose (Collister) Dull. He served his country in the Army in North Africa and Italy during World War II. Max graduated from the University of Iowa in 1949 with a degree in Economics. He married the former Barbara Hull December 2, 1950. Max farmed in rural Cherokee County for seven years prior to joining Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Garner, Iowa. He moved his family to DeWitt, in 1961 as an agency manager. Later Max became an independent insurance agent and then retired after 30 years in the insurance business.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, Springbrook Country Club where he had served as president, DeWitt Noon Lions, Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238 where he had served as commander. Max was an enthusiastic Iowa Hawkeye fan and attended football and basketball games for over 50 years. One of his greatest joys in life besides his family was the game of golf.

Surviving are his children, Mary (Gary) Froeschle, DeWitt; Tom (Carol) Dull, Woodstock, Georgia; Anne (Ed) Colloton, Bloomington, Illinois; Geri Dull, Iowa City, Iowa; Teresa (Dwaine) Hasenmiller, Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Will (Jen), Buffy, Briget and Ben Froeschle; Carly Dull; Grace and Eddy Colloton; Alaina, Lauren and Maureen Hasenmiller; a great-granddaughter, Maggie Kate Froeschle; special companion, Mary Helen Duval, Davenport; brothers, Burton (Agnes) Dull, LeMars, Iowa; Ivan (Lois) Dull, Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Max was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara on December 23, 1992, by his parents and by two brothers, Glenn and Paul Dull.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3 until 7 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2005. Vigil Service 7 p.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness officiating. Interment in the Church Cemetery.

Military rites will be provided by the American Legion.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
