Gertrude Proehl

CLINTON — Gertrude I. “Trudy” Proehl, 80, of Clinton, died Friday at Bickford Cottage.

Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa, Department of Anatomy, as she had requested. Memorial services will be at a later date. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

She was born April 30, 1925, in Cleveland to the Rev. Arthur C. and Margaret Kuhlmann Proehl.

She graduated from Iowa City High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1947 and earned a master’s degree from Colorado State University in 1954.

She began her teaching career in Williamsburg and taught social studies at Washington Middle School in Clinton from 1949 until retiring in 1985.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton, as well as several Clinton organizations and education organizations.

Survivors include three sisters, Margaret (Don) Johnson and Carla (George) Case, both of Bettendorf, and Marie (Tom) Graves of Grantham, N.H.; one brother, Otto Proehl of LaCrosse, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton or to the Trudy Proehl Scholarship Fund, Clinton Community School District.

She was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Death date: Dec. 9, 2005
