MAQUOKETA - Harvey L. Gruenwald, 88, of Maquoketa, died Thursday at the Sunnycrest Nursing Center, Dysart.

There will be a celebration of his life at 10 a.m. Monday at the Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa, with the Rev. Gerald Gjerde, pastor of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

He was born Dec. 13, 1916, in rural Nashville, Iowa, to Louis and Ida Weede Gruenwald. He married Dorothy M. Beck on Oct. 30, 1940, in Maquoketa. She died in April.

He attended school in Nashville.

He was a member of the FFA, 4-H Club, First Lutheran Church and the Jackson County Farm Bureau Association.

He farmed in Monmouth, Baldwin and Nashville prior to purchasing a farm south of Maquoketa.

After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Maquoketa.

Survivors include two children, Ronald (Jo) Gruenwald of Robins and Mrs. Sharon (Don) Davison of Maquoketa; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Eileen Schumacher of Camanche and Clara Klein of Savanna, Ill.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Jackson County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and four brothers.
