Quinton Smith

CLINTON - Quinton V. Smith, 85, of Clinton, died Wednesday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery, Clinton.

Pallbearers will be Nathan, Adam and Lucas Zastrow, David and Stephen Kelly, Jack Reed, Jack Wilson and Dave Whitman.

He was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Grand Mound to George and Elizabeth Vogt Smith. He married Betty Bowers on June 11, 1943, in Fort Hood, Texas.

He attended Grand Mound High School and Clinton Business College.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and served until 1944 during World War II.

He worked as a purchasing agent with E.I. Dupont before retiring in 1978 after 37 years of service.

He was a past member of the Skyline Board, Social Service Board, Score, Lions Club, Purchasing Agent Organization, Kiwanis and the Fulton Country clubs.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Laurie Smith (Julie Phye) and Mrs. Sherri (Ed) Zastrow, both of Iowa City; and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa City Ronald McDonald House or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one brother.
