Ruth Whittey 03/09/1999 DeWITT, Iowa -- Ruth Whittey, of Rescue, Calif., formerly of DeWitt and Grand Mound, died of breast cancer on Feb. 24, 1999, at her daughter's home in Rescue. A family memorial prayer service will be 5 p.m. Saturday at Grace Camp Chapel, DeWitt. Mrs. Whittey was an elementary teacher for many years in Miles and Clinton and for children of American military personnel in Japan, Wake Island and Germany. She retired in 1979. Ruth Hansen was born March 13, 1929, in Clinton. She married Scott Whittey in 1956 in Japan. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Tami Martin, Cool, and Traci Jones, Rescue; sons, Christopher, stationed with the Air Force in Maryland, and Scott, California City, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; a step-grandchild; her mother, Catherine Hansen, DeWitt; sisters, Kay Olson, and Eunice Olson, both of Grand Mound, Dot Grau, Papillion, Neb., Sonja Byerly, Sheboygan, Wis., and Sandy Henning, Johnston; and a brother, Paul Hansen, Wheatland.
