Louis R. “Dick” Hess

CLINTON — Louis R. “Dick” Hess, age 79 of Clinton, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005 at Bluff Terrace Nursing Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday 10:30 AM at Prince of Peace Parrish - St. Mary’s Church; the Rev. Anthony Herold will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday 4-7 PM at the Pape Funeral Home, where 7:00 PM rosary will be recited. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, where the Camanche VFW will conduct military honors. Pallbearers will be Kerry and Gary Whitmore, Donald Flood, Steve Maddie, Dale Eizenga, and Jim Beetum. Memorials may be given to Mercy Hospice or Prince of Peace.

Dick was born on Dec. 5, 1925 in Ottumwa, IA, the son of Louis and Mabel (Pettitt) Hess. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1948. He was a veteran in the US Army during WWII from 1944-1946; serving during the Pacific and Philippine Theatres. He married Katheryn Schneider on June 10, 1946 in Clinton. Dick was co-founder of Air Control and a manager of the former Odeon Club in Clinton; he retired in 1983. After retirement, Dick and his wife moved to Florida, residing for over 20 years, before moving back to Clinton in 2002. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Valley Oaks Golf, and the Camanche VFW Post #9664. Dick was an avid golfer and Chicago Cubs & Atlanta Braves fan.

Dick is survived by his wife, Katheryn of Clinton; two sons, Richard Hess and Timothy (Kim) Hess of Clinton; two grandchildren, Allyson and Patrick; a brother, James Hess of Kingston, CA; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Hess of Lake City, FL. And many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
