The Clinton Herald Tuesday December 31, 1968 p. 10 Walter Joens, 68, of West Chicago, Ill., formerly of Clinton, died Monday in St. Charles, Ill. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Snell-Smith funeral home with Rev. Yeiser of St. Stephen's Lutheran church officiating. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Mr. Joens was born July 31, 1900 in Clinton, the son of the late George and Christina Joens. He married Mabel Quick, Feb. 1, 1919 in Clinton. She died in 1954. He married Jane Smith in 1956. He was a retired conductor for the Chicago and North Western railway. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Cathy at home; two stepsons, William and Thomas Smith at home; two brothers, Harold of Clinton and Frank of Cedar Rapids; and six sisters, Mrs. William (Loretta) Siever and Mrs. William (Elsie) Monaghan, both of Clinton, Mrs. Jay (Isabelle) Vogel and Mrs. Merlin (Esther) Howe, both of Morrison, Ill., Mrs. Gerhardt (Dorothy) Bakke of Sycamore, Ill., and Mrs. Helen Stepapek of Cedar Rapids.
