The Clinton Herald Tuesday October 4, 1949 p. 10 Mrs. George Joens, 337 Fourteenth avenue, South, died unexpectedly early today in her home, where she had lived for 52 years. The body is in the Snell funeral home where friends may call beginning this evening. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. F.E. Schoenbohm officiating. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery. Mrs. Joens was born Christine M. Ipsen, Jan. 30, 1875, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the daughter of Peter and Anna Ipsen. She was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and came to Clinton with her parents when she was a child. She married George Joens in Clinton Feb. 9, 1898 and they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1948. Mrs. Joens was a member of the Ladies' auxiliary of the German society. She is survived by her husband; six daughters, Mrs. Leo (Helen) Stepanek of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Elsie Monaghan and Mrs. William (Lauretta) Sievers of Clinton, Mrs. Jay (Isabelle) Vogel of Morrison, Ill., Mrs. Gary (Dorothy) Bakke of Racine, Wis., and Mrs. Merlin (Esther) Howe of Morrison; three sons, Walter of Chicago, Frank of Cedar Rapids and Harold of Clinton; five brothers, August and Andrew of Clinton, Martin of Rockford, Ill., Henry of Freeport, Ill., and Charles of California; one sister, Mrs. Peter Orte of Clinton, and 11 grandchildren. One brother preceded her hin death.
