The Clinton Herald Saturday July 11, 1970 p. 8 Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Shadduck-Cannon funeral home for Claus Joens, 84, of 512 Main AVe., who died Friday morning at Mercy Hospital. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. The Rev. Eilert Nielsen of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be Clifford Eggers, Fay Andersen, Elmer Schoel, William Gradert, Harold Jorgensen and Ralph Joens. An honorary pallbearer will be Coast Guard Cadet First Class Albert Joens. Visitation begins after 7 p.m. today. Mr. Joens was born March 12, 1886, in Hampshire Township in Clinton County, the son of Peter and Hanna Peters Joens. He attended Clinton County schools and married Mary Stolk on Oct. 29, 1914. She died in 1968. He farmed in the area and later moved to Clinton and worked for the Iowa Highway Department until his retirement in 1950. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Clinton County Consistory and the Lyons Lodge 93 A.F.of A.M. and a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He is survived by one brother, Hans Joens of Clinton. Preceding him in death were his wife, a daughter in infancy, three brothers and four sisters.
