The Clinton Herald Thursday March 19, 1981 p. 9 The Rev. Walter McEleney, 70, of St. Vincent's Center, Davenport, died there this morning. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be 3:30 to 9 p.m. Friday in the church, with rosaries recited at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour. Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. The Rev. McEleney was born Dec. 12, 1910, in Lyons, to John and Mary Lonergan McEleney. He attended St. Ambrose College, graduating in 1934, and was ordained April 24, 1938, in Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. He was pastor of St. Paul the Apostle Church from 1968 until retiring in July 1980. He also served St. Paul's Catholic Church, Burlington; St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fort Madison; St. Thomas More Catholic Church and student center, Iowa City; Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Colfax; and St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Victor. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Burns of Clinton, and Mrs. James H. (Catherine) Jones of Fulton.
