The Clinton Herald Saturday October 19, 1901 p. 6 John McEleney succomed to a lingering illness at 4 o''clock this morning, and passed away at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James McEleney, corner of Eighth street and Seventh avenue, this city. The news of his death occasioned but little surprise among his friends, as it had been expected for more than two weeks. His illness dated back fifteen months or more, during which time he has been failing gradually, and of late more rapidly. His ailments resulted in Bright's disease and dropsy towards the end, and all hope has been abandoned for some time. John McEleney was one of Lyons' most popular residents. He was born in this city about thirty five years ago, and spent his entire life here, winning a wide circle of friends who learned of his death with sincere regret. Of late years he had been in the saloon business, conduction sample rooms on Main street, near the park. Honest and upright in all his dealings, he won for himself the friendship of all whom he met, and his death will be greatly deplored. Surviving the deceased are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. McEleney, and his brothers, Phillip and James of this city, and Neil and Patrick, employed by the Northwestern Railroad company near Winona, Minn. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
