The Clinton Herald Joseph E. Cossman, age 76 of Clinton, died Monday, June 16, 2003 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday 10:30 A.M. at Prince of Peace Parish, St. Irenaeus Church. Visitation will be Wednesday 3-5 and 6-8 P.M. at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Thomas, John, Dan and Darin McEleney, and Joseph T. and Mark Cossman. Memorial may be given to Mercy Hospice or American Cancer Society. Joseph was born June 11, 1927 in Clinton, Iowa to Leonard and Mary (McEleney) Cossman. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1945. He received his Bachelors Degree in Accounting from the University of Iowa in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1945-1947. He worked for the State of Iowa Tax Division in Des Moines for over 3 years, Bendix Corporation in Davenport, Internal Revenue Service in Omaha, Nebraska for over 4 years, and McEleney Motors in Clinton as a business manager. He later owned and operated Heritage Motors in Clinton for over 10 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Prince of Peace Council, Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree, Board of Mt. St. Clare College, Clinton Ecumenical Housing Authority Board, and was a past president of Clinton Country Club. Joseph is survived by his sister Lucille Busk of Clinton, Iowa; several cousins; six nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews including Renee Pendley and Nichole DeHaven, both of Clinton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Leonard Cossman, and a niece Marilyn K. DeHaven.
