The Clinton Herald Monday February 10, 1941 p. 14 John Struve, 80, on of eastern Iowa's pioneer grain mill operators and owners died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday in his home at 2517 North Third street. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the home with the Rev. J. Albert Clarke of the Community church officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. The deceased was born Aug. 13, 1860, in Jackson county. He was a son of the late Ernest H. Struve and Catherine Schnoor Struve. Mr. Struve learned the miller's trade under his father's tutelage and later in company with a brother, William, he opened a mill at Hauntown. In 1887, he moved to the old town of Lyons now Clinton, and organized the milling industry which operates under his name today and is located at Main avenue and North Third street. The original Lyons Roller mill which was opened by the deceased soon had an excellent patronage. This first mill was dismantled in 1898 and Mr. Struve erected the present Model Roller Mill at the address above. He has since been proprietor of that mill but he retired from active business in 1932 because of ill health. Mr. Struve was married April 26, 1887, to Annie D. Nielsen, Clinton, the widow who survives him with the following children; Ernest, Hans, Mrs. Ernest Schwartz (Bertha), Emma, Olive, Elmer and Clarence, all of Clinton; six grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. J.L. Myers, Clinton. A daughter, four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
