Melba Wickes

SAVANNA, Ill. — Melba Rae Thurston Wickes, 91, of Savanna, died Tuesday at her home.

There will be a private family memorial service. There will be no visitation. The Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, will be in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be in the Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna.

She was born July 26, 1914, to Cora Adelia McGlaughlin and Ray Bourne Thurston. She married William “Bill” Arthur Wickes on June 26, 1946.

She grew up in Texas.

She attended college and obtained a teaching degree in Texas.

She taught school for more than 40 years. She served as the family history librarian in Kalispell, Mont.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. ArlaJean (Oscar) Echegaray of Pendelton, Ore., Mrs. Cheryl Dawn (Walter) Burk of Savanna and Mrs. Yolanda (Steven) Klingler of Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, three sisters, husband and one grandchild.
