ERIE, Ill. — Arvilla A. Cox, 76, of Erie, died Wednesday at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center, Prophetstown, Ill.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Erie United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Wesleyan Hall of the Erie United Methodist Church and from 1 p.m. until the service time Monday at the church. The Gibson Funeral Home, Erie, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Dec.18, 1928, in Erie to Harry and Marguerite Bacon Updyke. She married J. Roy Cox on Nov. 15, 1949, in Camp Point, Ill.

She graduated from Tampico (Ill.) High School in 1947. She attended the Moline (Ill.) Public Hospital School of Nursing.

She was a member and past president of Albany (Ill.) American Legion Post 1079 Auxiliary. She was a member and president of Erie Unit 582 until it disbanded. She was twice president of the 13th District and Second Division Legion Auxiliary. She also held many chairwomanships and served on committees of the department. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 48 years. She was a member of Tampico Baptist Church and the Mad Hatters Red Hat Society. She was a hospice volunteer and helped at the state Special Olympic games for many years.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Karna (Raymond) Wood of Erie, Mrs. Lois (Mark) Boelens of Atkinson, Ill., and Mrs. Fay (Dave) Haan of Cable, Wis., two sons, Terry (Kris) Cox of Erie and Brian (Chris) Cox of Mansfield, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert (Barbara) Updyke of Sacramento, Calif.

Memorials may be made to the Illinois State Special Olympic Legion Tent, Department of Illinois or the 13th District American Legion Auxiliary.
