ELDRIDGE — Robert L. Strayer, 68, of Eldridge and formerly of Clinton, died Tuesday Nov. 1, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Prince of Peace Parish Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clinton. Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial will be in the St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery, Clinton.

Pallbearers will be Tom and Sean Jankowski, Al Woods, Robert Vroegh, Steve Woods and Rick Hellwig.

He was born April 6, 1937, in Rock Island, Ill., to Walter and Mary Hefner Strayer. He married Barbara Tischler on June 22, 1968, in Detroit; she died in 1998. He later married Patricia Hundahl on Nov. 23, 2001, in Eldridge.

He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1955 and from St. Ambrose College in 1960.

He was a social studies teacher and coach at Lyons Middle School in Clinton for more than 30 years before retiring in 1997.

He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish in Clinton and St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Suzanne (Tod) Kirsch of Dearborn Heights, Mich., and Mrs. Deborah (Nathan) Hellwig of Iowa City; three stepchildren, Mrs. Michele (Dwayne) Goldsberry of Bettendorf, Mrs. Melissa (Al) Van Syckel of Haskell, N.J., and Michael (Barbara) Hundahl of Scranton, Pa.; two grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Jaqueline (Richard) Gutzwiller of Cottonwood, Ariz.; and seven nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and two children.
