Victor G. “Vic” Stueland

GRAND MOUND — Victor G. “Vic” Stueland, 85, of Grand Mound, died Tuesday Nov. 1, 2005, at Wheatland Manor.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus, with the Rev. Sarah Kretzmann officiating. Burial will be in Our Savior’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound.

He was born March 17, 1920, to Henry and Katherine Gohlman Stueland Sr. in Clinton County. He married Evelyn Eastvold on Dec. 27, 1940, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

He farmed for many years north of Grand Mound.

He was a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus. He served five terms as the Republican representative from District 37 in the Iowa House from 1979 to 1990.

He and his wife moved to DeWitt where they resided until moving to Wheatland Manor in 2004.

He was director of the Iowa Cattleman’s Association, 4-H leader, vice chairman of the Iowa Beef Industry Council, chairman of the Tri-State Health Planning Commission, member of the Iowa Natural Resources Council, Farm Bureau, Izaak Walton League, Lion’s Club and board of directors of First Central Bank. He also worked for water quality and conservation forming county parks and tree farms on unproductive acres.

Survivors include his wife; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry “Hank” of Wheatland Manor; one sister, Mrs. Geraldine (Robert) Jacobi of Calamus; and many nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family for Bible distribution in Africa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one daughter and one great-grandchild.
