MAQUOKETA — Bernice Bearce, 83, of Maquoketa, died Monday Oct. 24, 2005, at the Maquoketa Care Center.

Public graveside services and burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the East Iron Hill Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, with the Rev. Ruth Ann Scott officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa.

She was born May 12, 1922, in Jackson County to Clarence and Cornelia Merrick Prindle. She married David Eldon Bearce on Aug. 20, 1938, in Maquoketa. He died in 1994.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her children, Mrs. Donna (Stanley) Schleuning of Elizabeth, Ill., Mrs. June (Larry) Wall of Nacodoches, Texas, Mrs. Connie (Robert) Gray of Delmar, Mrs. Margaret (Larry) Edwards of Maquoketa, Mrs. Marsha (Robert) Starks of Monticello, Joyce Fleming of Monticello, David Bearce of Monticello, Lawrence (Beverly) Bearce of Kingman, Ariz., Ronald (Deanna) Bearce of Maquoketa, Ellsworth “Skeeter”(Rita) Bearce of Andrew and Robert (Rose) Bearce of Cascade; 30 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mamie Haas and Eleanor Warner, both of Burlington.

A Bernice Bearce Memorial Fund has been established.
