Elsie Alfreida Johanna Blount, 89, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away from this life on Friday, July 15, 2005, at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clinton. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
Elsie was born March 31, 1916, in Grand Mound, Iowa, the daughter of Harry Detleff and Elsbeth Henrietta Johanna (Brandenburg) Kracht. She married Edward W. Blount on Sept. 18, 1965. He died April 15, 1974.
In her adult life, she worked for 20 years at the Clinton Garment Factory, and also for Burpee's Seed, Curtis Manufacturing and Lord Baltimore in Clinton. She was involved in many organizations, including the Moose Club and Rebecca Lodge, each of which she had served as Chaplain; Royal Neighbors, and the Red Hat Club.
She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and belonged to the church sewing club. Elsie enjoyed swimming for 22 years, walking, and sewing. Her specialty was making pictogram-decorated blouses and vests.
Those left to honor her memory are three daughters and three sons, Rae Jean Rathje, of Decorah, Iowa, Pat Ann Funnell, of Clinton, and Vonita Faye (David) Drager, of Bowie, Texas, Allen Lynne (Bev) Henzen, of Spokane, Wash., Gary Leon (Angie) Henzen, of Long Beach, Miss., and Harry James (Diane) Henzen, of Clinton; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; as well as several step-grandchildren;and step-great-grandchildren.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and her husband, Edward W. Blount.
Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
