Velma M. Liddle, 80, of Camanche, died Friday, October 7, 2005, at the Bickford Cottage, Clinton, Iowa.

Memorial Services will be 10:30am, Monday, October 10, 2005, at Lyons United Methodist Church with Rev. Doresa Collogan officiating. Burial will follow at the Miles Cemetery, Miles, Iowa. The Snell-Zornig Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Velma Thomsen was born on May 31, 1925, in Teeds Grove, Iowa, the daughter of John (Jack) Thomsen and Vera (Jackson) Thomsen. She was a 1942 graduate of Miles High School.

She married William Liddle on November 11, 1945, at the First United Methodist Church in Clinton and farmed for over 24 years before moving to Camanche, Iowa. He later died on June 26, 1992.

She was employed as an industrial receptionist for Medical Associates in Clinton for 27 years.

Velma was a member of the Lyons United Methodist Church, Lyons Methodist Church Bible Study, Martha Circle and the Samaritan Auxiliary.

Surviving are two sons, Gregg (Leah) Liddle of Dubuque, Iowa, and Kenneth (Carolyn) Liddle of Thomsen, Illinois; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, two sisters: Myrna (Leroy) Mohr, of Clinton, Iowa; Betty (Harold) Koch of rural Sabula; and a brother: Eugene (JoAn) Thomsen of Miles, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter: Patricia Czajkowski and granddaughter: Kelly Liddle.

Velma was greatly admired by so many people. Lovingly known to her children and grandchildren as ”The Ironwoman,“ she was a constant source of strength and optimism. A woman of deep faith, Velma faced life's difficulties head-on, without complaint. She was devoted to her family and friends and loved them deeply. We'll miss her cheerful chatter, ready smile, boundless energy, and most of all, the helping hand she gave to all who needed it.

Special thanks go to Hospice, staff the Bickford Cottage, Rev. Doresa Collogan of Lyons United Methodist Church and the many devoted friends and family who visited Velma during the last stage of her life. It was greatly appreciated.

In lieu of flowers a Velma M. Liddle Memorial Fund has been established.
