Leona was born on Beaver Island, Clinton, on June 6, 1921, to Vern R. and Lillian (Berry) King. As a teenager she walked from Camanche to Clinton High School and graduated in 1939. During World War II she delivered mail on a military base in California. She was employed for 10 years at Lubbers & Bell Flyswatter Factory and retired after 20 years from A.C. Nielsen Clearing House.
She was the salad bar lady at Clinton's Moose Lodge for another 20 years, was a Women of the Moose member for over 40 years and a member of the AMVETS Ladies Auxilliary.
She was a loving mom, grandma and great-grandma. Always young at heart, our music was never too loud and she would dance to the Beatles or the Stones while she worked around the house. Her humor and good nature will always be remembered.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Ronald C.) Petersen, of Clinton, with whom she made her home; her son, David D. (Christina) Wilson, of Circleville, Ohio; her grandchildren, M/Sgt. Jason R. (April) Wilson, USAF, New Orleans, La., and Jeffrey Wilson, of Circleville; two wonderful great-grandchildren, Shelby and Jesse Wilson, of New Orleans; brothers, Vern R. King, of Clinton, and Donald King, of Atwater, Calif.; sisters, Sarah Puetsch, of Camanche, and Evelyn McDowell, of Sun City, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
Leona resided at Eagle Point Nursing Home for the last several months and dearly loved all of the wonderful nurses and aides who helped her live out a comfortable life.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Verna Ekland and Shirley Workman, and a brother, Neal (Bud) King. Memorials may be made to the Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center's Bird Aviary Fund.
