Mrs. Sally Blunck, 89, DeWitt, Iowa, died Thursday morning, June 2, 2005, at home.
Family and friends may visit from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, and from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. Funeral Liturgy will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. The Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The former Celestine Theresa Wieck was born August 28, 1915, in Grand Mound, Iowa. She was the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Margaret (Lindemann) Wieck. Sally married Lyle "Dutch" Blunck on October 18, 1937, in Grand Mound. The couple resided much of their married life in DeWitt. She worked as a beautician early in life and received a Teaching Certificate in the late 1950s. Sally taught school at St. Joseph Catholic School, DeWitt, Welton Elementary and North Scott Elementary. Following retirement from teaching, Sally continued to tutor various students and volunteer at St. Joseph School and Westwing Place.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, the Altar and Rosary Society, DeWitt Hospital Auxiliary and Hospice. Sally was a Eucharist Minister to shut-ins and was a former member of the St. Joseph School Board and Church Council. She enjoyed traveling, visiting with the residents at Westwing and socializing with the retired school personnel group.
Surviving are her children, Judy (Robert) Williams, DeWitt, Gary (Mary Ellen) Blunck, Davenport, Ron and (RoseMary) Blunck, Hyattsville, Maryland, Nancy Blunck (John Lohff) Anchorage, Alaska, and Steve Blunck, Lexington, Kentucky; nine grandchildren, Mark Williams, Jennie (Robert) Johnson, Jonathan (Jane) Williams, Eric (Shannon) Williams, Andy Blunck, Andrew Blunck, Christopher (Julie) Blunck, Katherine Lohff, and Lyle Blunck; three great-grandchildren, Dane Johnson, Jasmine Johnson and Tevin Johnson; a brother, Bud Wieck, DeWitt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, on November 22, 1983, a grandson, Larry Blunck, five sisters, Lillian Gillooly, Kay Caraher, Florence Minor, Gene Moore and Blanche Lee, and a brother, Abe Wieck.
Memorials may be made to a youth group of the donor's choice.
