Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Jessias "Jess" Jensen, Jr., 75, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Long Grove, Iowa. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Garden Cemetery, East Moline, with military graveside services being conducted by Vietnam Veterans of America the Quad Cities Chapter #299 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church on Monday, May 30, from 3 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jess was called to heaven to be with his family and friends, after passing away Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
Jessias Donald Jensen, Jr., was born January 30, 1930, in Rock Island, the son of Jessias and Edna (Malmrose) Jensen Sr. He married Carol Marie Schweska in 1950 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death in 1992. He then married Norma Jean Waterman in 1993 in Bettendorf. Jess proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, retiring from the U.S. Army Reserves after over 32 years of service.
Jess retired from AAA Motor Club of Iowa in 1995 after 20 years of service. Prior to AAA, he provided home delivery service for more than 25 years for Iowana and Sanitary Dairies.
Jess was always there to share love and hugs. He lived his faith in the Lord through his involvement and dedication to St. Ann's Catholic Church, where he served as Deanery Representative, was on the Parish Council, a Eucharistic Minister, active in CEW and sang in the choir. When not enjoying retirement during the winter months in Alamo, Texas, he enjoyed singing and teaching in the church and spending time with his family.
Memorials may be made to the family to be distributed to the many Christian organizations that Jess faithfully supported over the years.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Waterman; his children and their spouses, David and Karen Jensen, Cedar Rapids Iowa, Rick Jensen, Clinton Iowa, Beth Cale, Davenport, Dawn Wooten, Davenport, Cathy Jensen, Davenport, Steve and Beth Jensen, Davenport, and Tony Jensen, Cliffside Park, N.J.; his stepchildren and their spouses, Cathy and Jim Hoskins, Brooklyn Park, Minn., Karin and Lorin Daniels, DeWitt, Iowa, Connie Waterman, Naperville Ill., and Michael and Jane Waterman, Hillsdale, Ill. He is also survived and blessed by 24 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as a sister, Laverna and Cliff Petersen, Davenport, a brother, Russell Jensen, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Jensen, Viola, Ill.
Jess was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Jensen, sons, Dean Michael and Stephen Douglas Jensen, granddaughter, Michelle Jensen, brothers, Gary Jensen and Kenneth Jensen, a sister, Vivian Boomershine, and a son-in-law, Fred Wooten.
