EASTVOLD, MCDONALD, WALROD, MCCUNE, PLAHM, PORTER

Mrs. Gertrude L. (McCune) Eastvold, 85, DeWitt, Iowa, died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue, Iowa.
Mrs. Eastvold, the former Gertrude McDonald was born October 23, 1919, at DeWitt, the daughter of Clifford and Vera (Walrod) McDonald. She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1937. She attended the University of Dubuque and a Business College. Gertrude worked at the Pentagon for the Civil Service during World War II. She married Donald Scott McCune, August 28, 1946, in DeWitt. The couple resided in Colorado, Illinois and Iowa. Don preceded Gertrude in death March 5, 1958. She then worked at the Rock Island Arsenal while raising her three children. She married Stirling Eastvold March 24, 1967, at Calamus, Iowa. The couple farmed at rural Calamus, and spent their winters in McAllen, Texas, during their retirement. Stirling preceded her in death March 29, 1997. She has resided in DeWitt for the past 10 years.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter BG. Gertrude was an avid Bridge player, belonging to several Bridge Clubs. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and going out to eat with her many friends.
Surviving are her children, William McCune, DeWitt, Donald McCune, Sheridan, Wyo., Jane (Mrs. Michael) Plahm, Darien, Ill.; five grandchildren, Christopher (Ella) Plahm, Joseph (Megan) Plahm, Jennifer Plahm, Jacob McCune and Matthew McCune; a great-grandchild to be born in June; step-children, Stirling L. (Caryle) Eastvold, DeWitt, Loretta (Mrs. Richard) Bequeaith, Russell, Iowa, Karen (Mrs. Roger) Blunk, Tulsa, Okla.; five step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, Don and Stirling, Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Melba Porter.
Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 2 until 6 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2005. Service of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus. The Rev. Sarah E. Kretzmann officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials may be designated to Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus, or P.E.O. Scholarships.
