George William Farber, 91, died on Monday evening, Nov. 1, 2004, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Grand Mound, Iowa. Pastor Nancy Bender will officiate. Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. today at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Pallbearers will be Brian, Josh and Chris Farber, Mitch Comstock, Steve Moore and Chris Hammerstrom.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Grand Mound.
He was born in rural Donahue, Iowa, on April 18, 1913, to Beverly D. and DeElda (Steward) Farber. On Sept. 10, 1940, he married Vinetta Ruggeberg of rural Welton, Iowa.
George attended a rural school in Scott County. Prior to his marriage, he worked for area farmers. After 1941, he and his wife farmed for the next 40 years in the Long Grove and Calamus areas in Iowa. In 1993 they moved to DeWitt.
George enjoyed fishing and working in his yard.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Grand Mound and a member of Clinton County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Vinetta; three sons and daughters-in-law, David (Janice) Farber, of Galesburg, Ill., Dwight (Brenda), of Bloomington, Ill., and Robert (Melinda), of Oskaloosa, Iowa; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Dohse, of DeWitt; a brother and sister-in-law, Lester (Betty), of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a sister-in-law, Grace Farber, of Moline.
George was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald, and infant twin grandsons.
