18 January 1918 - The Clinton Advertiser

Grand Mound, Ia. Jan. 18 - The funeral of the late E. H. Vetter, who passed away at his home here Sunday evening, after a lingering illness, was held Wednesday afternoon from the German Lutheran church, where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. L. Eschbach, after which interment was made in Evergreen cemetery. J. W. Kelly, undertaker, had charge. The funeral was largely attended by old friends and neighbors, the following acting as pallbearers, Wm. Schunter, C. L. Brockman. B. T. Olson, Chas. Smith, Ed Jensen and W. J. Dunker.

The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful.

Ernest H. Vetter was born Feb. 2?, 1872, in Olive township. Here he received his education and grew to manhood. On Sept. 17, 1899, he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Sampson. This union was blessed by nine children, who are Herbert, John, Gerheardt, Ernest, Arnold, Woodrow, Lenore and Elizabeth, one daughter, Pearlie, preceding him in death a year and a half ago.

All but three years of his life were spent in Clinton county.

He has been a member of the firm of Vetter Bros & Blunck for almost twenty years until last May, when he was stricken with his final illness, being bedfast the past six or seven weeks, where he patiently awaited the end.

He was an honorable, upright citizen, and was a kind and loving husband and father. He was also one of the first directors of the Farmers' & Merchants' Savings bank, and had been a member of the city council for several years.

Besides his sorrowing wife and eight minor children, he is survived by two brothers, Henry of this place and August of Buena Vista, and two sisters, Mrs. Augusta Firek of Geneseo, Ill., and Mrs. Bertha Mueller of Minnestoa. A host of friends extend sympathy to those bereaved.
