The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday in Pape Funeral Home for Donald M. "Pete" Harksen, 71, of 1707 Pershing Blvd., who died Thursday in University Hospital, Iowa City.
The Rev. Fredrick Pierce of the United Methodist Church, DeWitt, will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jack Struve, Duane Hagge, Dale Koch, Orvin Peterson, Harold Behrens and William Schwartz.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Leedham, Richard Brown, Don Johnson, Raymond Behrens, Wilburt Tietjens and Joe Gryt.
Mr. Harksen was born July 28, 1918, in DeWitt to Alfred and Hazel Myers Harksen. He married Vera J. McClintock, Dec. 12, 1938 in Clinton.
He joined Pinney Printing Company in 1947 as a compositor. He later became an offset press operator and in 1959 became press room foreman. He was plate superintendent for 15 years, retiring in 1980. He served in the United Coast Guard during World War II.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 190 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge no. 363. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; a sister, Mrs. Iva Smith of DeWitt; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
