Dan Fullerton, age 82, passed away unexpectedly on November 23, 2021 in Clinton, IA.
Dan was born April 28, 1939 in Tiffin, OH. He was a graduate of John Carroll University and was very proud to have been an offensive lineman on the undefeated 1959 football team. He also held a master's degree from University of Wisconsin, Platteville. After college Dan became a teacher and coach at the St. Francis Indian School in the Sicangu Lakota community. He also worked as a counselor, football, and track & field coach at Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. Dan dedicated much of his work life to helping people navigate mental health problems, both in private practice and at Bridgeview Community Mental Health Clinic. He enjoyed collecting antiques and his daily swims at the Y in addition to being an Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was an excellent cook and an avid reader.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Penny Waters Fullerton, children Bill Fullerton (Amy Barger) of Edina , MN, Sandra (Paul) Joireman of Richmond, VA, Shannon (David) Leffler of Carlisle, PA and stepchildren Gretchen Murphy (Dudley Poppens) of Bluffton, SC and KC Murphy (Dave Dixon) of Oakland, CA in addition to 12 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 2:00pm, Sunday, December 19, 2021 at Snell Zornig Funeral Home followed by a time of fellowship. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Benevolent Society through the United Way of Clinton County, Iowa.
