Martha Elizabeth Schroeder, 84, of Lost Nation, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 1990 at Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa.

Martha was born near Nashville July 23, 1905, the daughter of Louis and Lena Busch Rechterman. She attended and graduated from the Lost Nation School system.

Dec. 31, 1924, Martha married Carl L. Schroeder at Davenport. They lived on a farm west of Lost Nation until moving into Lost Nation in 1952. Carl died in March 1977.

Martha was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Lost Nation.

She is survived by one son, Paul Schroeder of Lost Nation; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Betty) Hainstock of Lost Nation and Mrs. Judy Price of Issaquah, Wash.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ella Flemming of Lost Nation; and three brothers, Walter Rechterman of Lost Nation, Harry Rechterman of Davenport, and Pau Rechterman of Athens, Ga.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, and two brothers.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lost Nation with the Rev. Craig Bowyer officiating. Burial was in Lost Nation Cemetery. Casketbearers were Jeremy, Steven and Ray Hainstock, Mark, Chris and Cary Schroeder.

Hayden Funeral home of Lost Nation was in charge of arrangements.
