Frieda A. Seyfert, 89, of DeWitt and formerly of Lost Nation, died Wednesday, Jan. 17 at the DeWitt Community Hospital in DeWitt.

She was born May 30, 1900 at Smithtown near Lost Nation, the daughter of William and Etta Barnes Cook. She attended rural schools and graduated from Lost Nation High School in 1918. She then attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon.

Frieda taught in Clinton County rural schools for several years before teaching one year at Lost Nation.

June 1, 1922 she married Edgar Seyfert at her parents home at Smithtown. The couple farmed south of Lost Nation their entire married lives. Edgar died in 1978 and Frieda moved to DeWitt in 1982.

Frieda was a member of Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation where she taught Sunday School for many years; the United Presbyterian Women; was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Gardner Chapter 374 of Lost Nation; the Past Matrons Organization; Sharon Township Homemakers; the Guys and Dolls; and the Clinton County Historical Society.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harlan (Marjorie) Fink of Durant; one son Arthur of Charlotte; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Esther Edelman of Lost Nation.

Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation with the Rev. Paul Skelley officiating. Burial was in Lost Nation Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Edelman, Jack Edelman, Harold Lubben, Julius Derynck, Ronald Heilig, and Gary Schmidt. Hayden Funeral Home of Lost Nation was in charge.
