The Clinton Herald Friday August 19, 1988 p. 12 The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Irenaeus Catholic Church for Charles H. Klaes, 67, of 2911 Roosevelt St., who died Wednesday in Mercy Hospital. The Rev. George Hoenig will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today in Pape Funeral Home, where a 7:30 p.m. rosary will be recited. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cleo Gordaon, Tom Hansen, Bruno Krajewski, Ray Anderson, Delbert Schmidt, James Marshall, Robert Pape, and Hershy Pollastrini. Mr. Klaes was born June 28, 1921, in Clinton, to Charles and Julia Rutledge Klaes. He married Madonna Sullivan, Oct. 25, 1947, in Clinton. He was a 1939 graduate of Lyons High School and attended Loras College, Dubuque. He was employed for Commonwealth Loans, managed the Odeon Club from 1956 to 1965, owned and operated Charlies Supper Club from 1966 to 1977, owned and operated the Village Pump, and worked for GB Systems in Clinton. Mr. Klaes was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean Confilct. He was a member of St. Irenaeus Catholic Church. He recieved his fourth degree in the Knights of Columbus where he had served as past Grand Knight, he was the past district governor of the Lyons Clubs International, was a past national board member of the National Licensed Beverage Association, past president of the Iowa Licensed Beverage Association, and was an active member of the Clinton Chapter SCORE. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Charles R. and James, both of Clinton; Michael of Aiken, S.C.; two granddaughters; a sister, Mrs. Larry (Beatrice) Witt of Clinton; a brother, Dr. Marvin, of Seymour, Ind.; and a stepmother, Alice Klaes of Clinton. He was preceded in death by a son and a granddaughter.
