The Clinton Herald Thursday January 19, 1989 p. 12 Mass of the Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Leon J. Cavanaugh, 81, of 318 Main Ave., who died Tuesday in Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Thomas Doyle will officiate. The Mass will be preceded by a 10:30 a.m. prayer service in Schmitz Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today in Schmitz Funeral Home, where a 7 p.m. rosary will be recited. Burial will be in Clinton Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dean, Craig and Brent Cavanaugh, John and Kyle Carstensen, Stephen Struck and John Gavin. Mr. Cavanaugh was born March 22, 1907, in Clinton to Jack and Mabel Williams Cavanaugh. He married Beatrice Rodefer, July 2, 1925, in Davenport. She died Dec. 10, 1983. He was the owner of Leon's Silver Rail Tavern until 1972. Mr. Cavanaugh was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeries No. 705. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Patricia Ann) Carstensen, of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Robert E. of Crystal Lake, Ill., and David L. of Clinton; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Harold (Bernice) Pettit, of Clinton. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
