DR. MANSFIELD DIES; HAD BEEN ILL TWO WEEKS"Dr. Jonathan Mellen Mansfield, 45 who had practiced medicine in Clinton 19 years and was a memeber of a family prominent in Clinton many years, died at 6:25 p.m. Thursday night in Jane Lamb Hospital, following an illness of two weeks duration."
"Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Saturday afternoon in the Scottish Rite Masonic temple with Delphic chapter Knights Rose Croix, in charge. Dr. Thomas Horton of St. John's Episcopal church will officiate. 'Taps' will be sounded at the grave in Springdale cemetery by a bugler from June Van Meter post,190. American Legion.
"Dr. Mansfield was born Jan 23, 1893 in Clinton, son of the late Douglas D. and Mrs. Mansfield. He was graduated from Clinton High School and the University of Iowa Medical School where he was an honor student. During his university days he affiliated with Nu Sigma Nu medical fraternity."
"After serving as interne in University hospital Iowa City, Dr. Mansfield enlisted in the U. S. army and served the duration of the World War as a first lieutenant in the medical corps, being stationed at Vancouver Barracks in Washington. After being honorably discharged from the army he returned to Clinton and engaged in the practice of medicine, continuing until becoming ill two weeks ago."
"Dr. Mansfield had an extensive practice and was widely known for his unusual skill as a surgeon."
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. D. D. Mansfield, a sister, Mrs. Charles B. Mills, a nephew Charles B. Mills III, a niece, Martha Mansfield Mills, all of Minneaplois and and aunt, Mrs. Allice Oates, Peoria, Ill.
