Gertrude Evelyn, wife of Dr. P. A. Lillie of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Leslie of Clinton, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning at 2 o'clock at her home in Oregon, after a very brief illness. Mr. Leslie, who left for the west immediately upon receiving word of her serious illness, did not arrive until after her demise, but found his brother Robert, a former Clinton resident, but now making his home in Oregon, with the bereaved family. Mrs. Lillie is survived by her husband and two children, Evelyn and James, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Leslie, and two brothers, James MacGregor Leslie and Donald Leslie, both of Clinton. The body will be brought to the old home for burial. Mr. Leslie accompanied by Dr. Lillie and the son and daughter expected to arrive Friday morning. Funeral services will be planned for Friday afternoon. Friends are asked not to send flowers to the home.

There are many words, spoken and written, indicating the sincere sympathy of many friends for the bereaved family in the taking of this former Clinton girl, at a time when life held so much of promise. She was of sweet, earnest, womanly characteristics, with her greatest joy and happiness among her own people and in her chosen circle of friends. Her children were her crowning joy, and was zealous in bringing to them the culture and broadness of life which had been hers in her girlhood, seeking to hold them to right living and right thinking, a true devoted mother as she had been daughter and sister.
