Mrs. L. L. Smullin passed away this morning after a long illness. Intelligence of her death was received with sincere regret by hundreds of friends in this city and vicinity.

The funeral is to be held Sunday, with burial at Jefferson, Iowa. The service, which will be in charge of Rev. H. R. Rendall of the First Presbyterian church will be private.

Harriet Eleanor Schermerhorn, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. S. Schermerhorn was born at Lodi, Wisconsin, on July 12, 1857. At the age of eleven years she became identified with the Presbyterian church at Lodi, and she remained a constant and active member of that faith during life.

In 1870 she came to Iowa, taking up her residence in Jefferson, and her marriage to Mr. Smullin took place in 1875. She was the mother of three boys, Leon, who died on June 16, 1884, and Harris Irvin and George Wesley, who with their father, survive. Mr. and Mrs. Smullin came to Clinton 28 years ago to make their home here.

Mrs. Smullin had been very prominent in church work in Clinton. She was president of the Presbyterian Foreign Missionary society for ten years, for a number of years was at the head of the Home Society and for two years was synodical president.
