John McConahy died at his home near Center Grove Thursday March 11, and was buried at the Villanova cemetery on Saturday, March 13. Services were conducted by Reverend Father Cone who celebrated requiem high mass in the presence of a large congregation of friends and neighbors. He was born in Ireland in 1838 and when a young boy came to America, living for a time in New York state, from which he moved to New Jersey, where he married Bridget Reilley, who preceded him in death several years ago. They came to Iowa in 1877 and were highly respected as friends and neighbors. To them were born nine children, of whom eight survive, Edward, Thomas, Andrew, Frank, William, Mrs. James Gaffey, Sister Mary Edward of Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids, and Catherine, at home. Friends of the family who served as pall bearers were Joseph Cranny, Joseph Dermody, Wm. Naughton, John Reed, James McDonnell and Michael Shannon.
